Music and Me Blog Entry

About Me!

Hello! I am Briannah and I am a sophomore! I am majoring in both business marketing and psychology (clinical concentration). I played violin from 5th grade-senior year, but unfortunately haven't played since. Majority of the years I played, I was 1st or 2nd chair (besides 1 or 2 years), played a few solos, and participated in "solo ensemble" for a duet and solo! I also taught myself how to play a few songs on a keyboard, but I was young and don't remember the majority. That's about all the musical background I have besides the recorder in 4th grade of course.

I'm from Spartanburg and knew I didn't want to leave home for college, so Converse was a great choice. All of my dads side of the family is from and lives in Chicago! My grandma, uncle, and him moved down here many years ago and have lived down here since, but I have visited Chicago twice and they visit here sometimes! I have been to Chicago, Florida, Jamaica, and  New York and can't wait to travel more!

I have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 3 birds, a lizard, some fish, and a snake, so being around lots of animals has always been a huge part of my life, which I absolutely love. My week consists of school, work, and spending time with my boyfriend and family during my free time and I love it this way!

1. Share with us an example of music that is your current go-to. Something that you might throw onto Spotify (or equivalent) for any reason that you care to share. Basically, something that you like right now, for no other reason than you just like it.

Moon River - Frank Ocean

I love this song! I tend to listen to songs I love on repeat - because I love them so much - leading me to burnout of the song, but I have listened to this song for months and there's no getting tired of it. My boyfriend showed me this song one day while we were in the car, now every time I listen to it, it reminds me of us. I love the deep meaning all of Frank Oceans songs give his listeners. The line "moon, river, and me" (last line of the song), is my absolute favorite!

2. Share with us an example of music that is personally meaningful, and has been for awhile. It can be attached to a specific event or person, from your childhood or your college years, or just something that has resonated with you for a long time. And tell us why it's important.
Dancing in the Sky - Dani and Lizzy

This song is meaningful to me because it was played at my papas funeral many years ago.
For a long time after his passing, we did play this song a lot, but we honestly don't listen to it anymore due to the emotion it brings us. I think of this song frequently, always reminding me of him and the memories everyone felt for him when he passed.

3. Share with us an example of music that, for whatever reason, you just don't really connect with or understand. But as you're writing about it, see if you can convey your thoughts in respectful language--after all, someone somewhere would probably cite that song in one of the first two categories.

A Bar Song - Shaboozey

I personally do not like this song as frankly... it has been extremely overplayed. When social media, such as TikTok found this song, it was played in every video on my for you page, and I am unfortunately tired of hearing it. On the contrary, I can say I like country-pop spin he gave his listeners. I can also say in some ways it reminds me of Beyonce's "country" album (I know this is very controversial), which I also am not the biggest fan of and think it is also overplayed everywhere. (Another take- Billie Eilish's album should have won the Grammy!!)

4. This one's optional: if there's any other music you'd like to share with us that isn't covered in the first three categories, do so. But tell us why.

These are just some songs I have in my playlist that I enjoy listening to and want to share!

All to Myself - Future, Metro Boomin, The Weekend

I love the beat to this song - well really ALL of Future's music has an amazing beat! My favorite part would have to be towards the middle when the repeated "need you all to myself" line plays.

Heart of a Woman - Summer Walker

I love this song too! R&B is definitely my favorite style of music and I love artists like Summer Walker, SZA, Muni Long, etc. etc. Not to mention the couple in the video is from one of my favorite shows Love Island

  1. I really enjoyed your post and how unique it looks. The most interesting song to me was “Dancing in the Sky” Dani and Lizzy because the mixer of singing they do which I liked. The one I liked the best, though, was “Moon River” Frank Ocean. I liked mood the song gives off.

  2. Moon River is one of my favorites!!! I first played Moon River in jazz band in high school, and I have loved it ever since. I agree about A Bar Song; it has been played so much since it came out that I got tired of it really quickly. I also enjoy listening to Future while I'm in the gym.

  3. Hey Briannah, I enjoyed listening to your music selection but my favorite I would say is Moon River, it has this calming effect to it. I've been meaning to get into Frank Ocean's music but I just haven't done it. I also found it interesting how you said that his music gives listeners a deep meaning. Half the time I don't pay attention to the lyrics but I'll make sure to pay attention to his lyrics.

  4. hi. I agree with you about "a bar song" I feel like it was very overplayed on tiktok and now I can't help but skip it, when it pops up. Also; yes!!! Billie should have won that Grammy!
