Music and Family
The family member I chose to interview is my mom! She grew up in Cowpens, SC, so I'm sure her music is pretty similar to what most people listen to around here, but everyone's music taste is different. Not to mention I LOVE listening to her music in the car and singing as a family :)
What did you hear around the house?
"Mostly country and rock, every time we were in the car Nana and Papa would have all sorts of country playing"
What songs remind you of us growing up?
"I don't really know how to answer this one. I guess a lot of cartoon and kid shows. I know you loved Elmo and your sister Peppa Pig" (we then started talking about music we listened to in the car) "I remember us listening to all those songs haha. Boots were made for walking, If I die Young, Girl Crush, girl we were listening to my favorites in the car as y'all were growing up."
What's your favorite era of music?
"Definitely the oldies. I still listen to this now and have so many older songs in my playlist. You know I am an old soul and love old people"
What songs remind you of your family members?
"Go Rest High on the Mountain and Amazing Grace reminds me so much of my nanny and all the time we spent together growing up. I was with my nanny constantly"
Did you ever play and instrument or sing in chorus?
"Yes, I sang in the choir in Church and I was in chorus as a kid. You know I love to sing- All I do is sing when we're in the car and through the house"
Do you like instrumental music as well?
"Yeah I enjoy listening to instrumental music since my child (me) played the violin." (Side statement: My parents were at every single orchestra performance I ever had growing up from 5th grade-my senior year and supported me through every thing- I am extremely grateful for them)
What kind of music do you not like and what kind of music do you love?
"I never really enjoyed punk or emo growing up or now."
"When it comes to music I love Christmas is a MUST. I know yall think I'm crazy for playing Christmas music year round especially for Christmas in July and all around Thanksgiving time, but what can I say it's the best music to listen to"
What type of music did you listen to growing up? Any memories of going to a concert?
"No, I never been to a concert before and the music I listened to growing up wasn't very appropriate. I don't think I should've been listening to majority of the music I listened to growing up."
What events changed your music taste or what music means to you?
"A lot of music I listened to growing up I still listen to now and enjoy when throwback songs come on. My nanny and my dad, papa, played a role in what music meant to my though. At his funeral we listened to Dancing in the Sky and that song will forever mean so much and remind me of him. It was my ring tone for the longest. It means a lot to me."

I also chose to interview my mom! These Boots Were Made for Walking is such a fun song. I love this song. It is very sweet how your mom thought of a song that reminded her of her nanny since they were close. I also love that your parents did not miss a single performance you did. My mom also stated that some of the music she listened to was not appropriate growing up.
ReplyDeleteSomething that your mom and I have in common is our love for Christmas music, as soon as Halloween is over, Christmas is on until January. I also interviewed my mom, and she also said that a lot of the music that she should not have been listening to while she was growing up.
ReplyDeleteI love how your mom isn't afraid to play Christmas music whenever she wants. My family usually waits until we are decorating for Christmas during the weekend after Thanksgiving to play Christmas music, but that level of not caring what other people think can be great too.
